Μεταδιδακτορικές Υποτροφίες

The Bergthaler laboratory at the CeMM Research Center for Molecular Medicine of the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna, Austria is looking for two Postdoctoral Fellows who strive to study fundamental molecular questions in the areas of viral infections, inflammation and immunity. Data-driven and hypothesis-driven approaches are integrated to address pertinent pathophysiological questions on the organ/organism level (Ref: e.g. Schliehe C et al. Nature Immunology 2015 (PMID: 25419628), Bhattacharya A et al. Immunity 2015 (PMID: 26588782), Khamina K et al. PLoS Pathogens 2017 (PMID: 292618079)).

The Projects:

  1. Project 1: Metabolite-driven inflammation in viral hepatitis.

Metabolic-inflammatory hubs that modulate antiviral CD8 T cells and liver pathology will be studied on the tissue level. Coupled to latest technologies (CRISPR screens, single cell sequencing, metabolomics, flux measurements), we expect new insights into the crosstalk between metabolism and inflammation in vivo. This may open avenues to tailor immunological responses and ameliorate tissue pathology.

  2. Project 2: Impact of chromatin-associated proteins in inflammation.

The role of chromatin-related proteins in cytokine-mediated immunoregulation will be investigated in models of infectious and sterile inflammation. Newly generated gene-targeted mouse models and immunological and virological assays will be integrated with systems-level approaches (ChIP-seq, RNA-seq) to identify novel mechanisms of immunoregulation in infection and autoimmunity.

Both projects will benefit from established in vivo disease models, unpublished data and reagents, strong bioinformatics support, access to world class core facilities (next-generation sequencing, metabolomics, proteomics, drug screens) and a vibrant collaborative network with international leading scientists.
